Sallies the idea that celibacy is a root cause
for sexual abuse is just plan wrong; St. Paul
calls us to celibacy. Moreover, to suggest
that men and women cannot control their sexual
behavior, without routine gratification is
ridiculous. Still, few individuals would
ever Heed The Call to celibacy. Again, I'd
suggest statistics would prove out that people
who are not celibate abuse, at a much higher
rate than does a person who is vowed to
celibacy. Arvin, I'm not sure any of that matters! It's that when a priest breaks his vow, of being a priest, it's so traumatic people are simply drenched with sorrow; there's this sick burnt ash feeling about it; it's just terrible. Breaking marriage vows is pretty routine, but a priest breaking his vow is such a sorrowful tragedy. Still, just because divorce is routine, this doesn't mean that it's not sorrowful, sad, and tragic. |
