Free Will

What I understand St. Paul to say about free will:  Of course, humankind has free will, for we can choose to do this, or to do that.  What St. Paul has said is, before the law humankind did not understand what it was to covet, but when the law was given, humankind, then learns what it is to be covetous.  At this point man can choose to reject the law or he can choose to benefit himself, by being observant of it.

Before the law man went around doing anything that popped into his conscience: murder, ate, sexed, picked up a rock, threw a rock, sang a tune, killed a sparrow, stole his neighbors booty, maybe, even swept out the hut; but strength, as in the animal kingdom was, the means of survival.

Now when God gave man law, when this happened, how this happened is a mystery; whether God worked in mans conscious, and things became self evident ... then, God codified his law, through Moses.  Again this is a mystery, and mystery is the best word to describe, the identification and manifestation of law.
